Hobart hospital hit by gastro outbreaks

Two gastro outbreaks at Royal Hobart Hospital have added to already stretched resources, forcing all non-emergency surgery to be postponed.

The hospital insists the facility can deal with the pressures, despite losing members of staff to illness and dealing with a hefty flu-season workload.

"At this stage we've decided to postpone all non-time-critical surgery, roster on additional staff and organise additional treatment areas," acting executive director of operations Susan Gannon said in a statement on Monday.
