Hit-and-run Sydney driver turns himself in

A 59-year-old man has turned himself into police after a hit-and-run accident involving a two-year-old boy in Sydney's inner west.

The accident occurred in Haberfield just before 3pm (AEST) but the boy wasn't badly hurt.

The driver from Croydon Park in Sydney's inner-west presented himself to Burwood police later on Wednesday afternoon and was issued a fine. More serious penalties were not imposed as witnesses confirmed the accident wasn't his fault, a police spokesman told AAP.

The boy suffered facial grazes and was released from hospital on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old boy is fighting for his life in Westmead's childrens hospital after being hit by a sedan while crossing a busy road at Blacktown in Sydney's west.

He was found unconscious with severe head injuries and is now in an induced coma and on a ventilator.

The driver of the sedan has spoken to police.

Another two children were also hit by cars earlier this week.
