Major shake-up anticipated for healthcare as National Cabinet meets
Australia's embattled health system will be in the spotlight when Australia's leaders meet for National Cabinet in Canberra today.
Premiers and Chief Ministers arrived at prime ministerial residence The Lodge last night and began talks about problems in health.
It's understood they're looking to thrash out a number of problems, including GP shortages, rising out-of-pocket expenses for patients, and overburdened public hospitals.

The state and territory leaders are also set to push their requests.
They'll be asking for more health funding from the federal government, as well as a big change for pharmacies.
Under a proposal they'll discuss with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, pharmacists would be given the power to diagnose and prescribe for common conditions, so GPs aren't the only place people can go.
It could signal a major shake-up of Medicare.
