A woman has been “decontaminated” after a suspicious package sparked the evacuation in part of a Sydney building.

Firefighters, ambulance and police were called to an office building in Lee Street just before 3pm today after reports of a white powder being found.

Up to 80 people from a single level of the building were evacuated and an item has been seized by police for forensic examination.

She has been taken to Prince Alfred Hospital as a precaution.

Police remain on the scene with Fire and Rescue New South Wales.

Witnesses have reported seeing officers in hazmat suits.
