Woolworths sells out of sanitiser products, some market places hiking prices

Hand sanitiser shortages have seen some independent sellers taking advantage of increased demand as coronavirus "panic buying" continues.

Woolworths have also confirmed that their Australian stores are completely sold out of all sanitiser products.

There have been reports across the country of some stores marking up bottles of sanitiser as small as 30mL for a whopping $15.

Nine.com.au has seen other stores selling small bottles Dettol sanitisers for $10 and non-branded products for $7. The same Dettol bottle had previously sold for $3.50 in Woolworths.

Sellers on eBay and Facebook Marketplace are also taking advantage of the shortages with high prices for bottles.

Listings have packs of toilet rolls valued at $1,000 and individual hand sanitisers for $59.

Meanwhile, some enterprising building and plumbing services have advertised bidet and toilet hose installation to overcome "the lack of toilet paper on the market".

Woolworths sold out

Woolworths have said that their Australian stores are completely sold out of all sanitiser products, with shelves not expected to be restocked until mid to late next week.

Woolworths had already confirmed that a limit of 2 bottles per transaction would be placed on all hand sanitisers and the products would only be available to purchase over the counter.

Coles has hand sanitiser listed in-stock via their online shopping platform, however many shortages remain in-store.

This comes amid the nationwide shortages of toilet paper, with a limit of four packs per transaction applied to all in-store and online purchases.

Coles have also introduced the toilet paper limit due to high demand, with signs attached to empty shelves.
