An alleged gunman who opened fire on a property in the town of Pinjarra, 86km from Perth, yesterday has been arrested and charged by police.

A police manhunt was sparked yesterday after Michael Wayne Yates, 51, is believed to have fled a 30-acre property in the town.

Detectives spent much of the day scouring the property, fearing Yates may still have been armed.

Shots were allegedly fired at the house at 6am, and a teenager who lives there described the scene.

He said he was woken to shouting and described the weapon to 9NEWS as a handmade gun.

“I woke up and there was a bullet hole in the window, and a hole in the roof,” he said.

No one was injured.

Since the alleged incident, Yates was arrested and charged with committing an unlawful act with the intent to harm or endanger life, health or safety of a person as well as discharging a firearm to cause danger to or fear of the public.

He is expected to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
