Families of siege victims visit Martin Place tribute site

The grieving loved ones of slain Sydney siege hostages Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson slipped through a crowd of thousands today to say a painful goodbye at the Martin Place floral tribute.

Lindt café manager Mr Johnson’s father, mother, brother and partner wept openly at the site, comforting each other as best they could.

Mr Johnson was killed by gunman Man Monis during the final moments of the 16-hour hostage situation.

Today, his loved ones roamed the area where thousands had left flowers and notes.

It was closed off for their 10-minute visit.

Father Ken laid a bunch of sunflowers to join the floral carpet.

The family thanked everybody that had offered them support.

"We want to thank all the people in the world and in Australia that have given us so much support. ... (it's the) beginning of something new: peace and love on Earth," father Ken said.

The brother of the second of the siege victims Katrina Dawson also visited.

Sandy Dawson brought his own family and flowers to pay tribute to his sister, an accomplished barrister.

Katrina Dawson left behind three children.
