Greyhound adoption café opens its doors

A café has opened which is dedicated to giving retired racing greyhounds a second lease on life.

The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) Café officially opened on King Street in west Melbourne today, giving customers the chance to sip on a coffee while interacting with several gorgeous greyhounds in need of a new home.

Electronic tablets are also dotted around the space, so people can view other greyhounds from across the state that are up for adoption.

Other pooches - no matter what breed - are also welcome to visit for a doggie donut or puppuchino.

Almost $133,000 has been poured into the initiative from the Andrews Labor Government through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund.

“We’re supporting the greyhound racing industry because it employs thousands of Victorians and injects hundreds of millions in the economy,” Minister for Racing Martin Pakula said in an official statement.

The cafe will be open from 7am-3pm on Monday to Friday, and from 8am-3pm on weekends.
