Locals evacuated after grenade found in Sydney

There was a close call for a tradesmen in Sydney's North Bondi this afternoon when he discovered a grenade at the construction site he was working on. 

Police were called to a property in Reina Street around lunch time after reports of the discovery.

Army personnel were called in to retrieve a live grenade found in a Bondi backyard. 9News

They photographed the object and sent it to the rescue bomb and disposal unit, who confirmed it was a grenade. 

Nearby residents were evacuated for a short time will the level of risk was assessed and tradespeople sent home from the site. 

Army personnel were called in from Holsworthy to safely remove the grenade from the site at about 3pm.
