Golf veteran Greg Norman has slammed self-styled tennis “bad boy” Nick Kyrgios, describing his behaviour as “disgraceful”.

“I personally think it’s disgraceful. It sickens me when I see that, and somebody in America or somebody else says, well you Australians are all like that guy, I say no we’re not. It’s sad to see it,” Norman told 9NEWS.

The promising career of the 20-year-old tennis star has been marred by his dummy spits, swearing, abusing umpires and sledging opponents on the court.

Norman said tennis authorities needed to intervene and tell Kyrgios his behaviour was unacceptable.

“Slap him on the wrist really hard, hit him hard. Ban him, whatever,” Norman said.

However, the 60-year-old sporting legend said he would sit down with Kyrgios and pass on advice if he had the chance.

“Oh absolutely, if I had the opportunity. From one sportsman to another one, absolutely. I seek the advice of great athletes before me, and I took that on board,” Norman said.
