The Greens want the federal government to borrow billions of dollars and issue low-interest loans for councils and state governments to fund major infrastructure projects.

The minor party's policy would boost investment in infrastructure by $75 billion with finance spokesman Peter Whish-Wilson convinced Australia should not be scared of debt.

State governments and councils would also be able to access loans at record low interest rates through the Australian Infrastructure Bank issuing bonds, he said in a statement on Friday.
