Greens MP feels 'very lucky' to return to work two months after horror crash

Greens MP Amy MacMahon said she was lucky to be alive as she returned to work about two months after a serious car crash left her hospitalised.

The member for South Brisbane had left a community barbeque and was driving to a neighbourhood watch meeting at Kangaroo Point on February 12 when her car was hit.

She was rushed to hospital with head and shoulder injuries and had to receive physio and speech therapy.

MacMahon, who returned to work today, has spoken about the accident for the first time and said she doesn't remember the crash.

"Once I woke up in hospital and could start to understand what was going on it was obviously quite confronting that I'd been in a serious car accident," she said.

"Very tired, recovering from that, but I'm feeling much better after a few weeks and able to get back to work."

MacMahon said footage of the crash was "quite confronting" to watch but important for her to wrap her head around and that she now looks forward to sitting in parliament next week.

"I feel immensely lucky and very lucky for the recovery that I've made," she said.

Rani Paige Lowry, the 26-year-old alleged driver of the car that hit MacMahon, was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and faced court last month.

She was accused of speeding and running a red light.
