Greens deal to end backpacker deadlock

A deal between the Australian Greens and the government is expected to resolve the deadlock over the backpacker tax.

The Greens earlier on Thursday said they supported Labor's compromise of a 13 per cent tax rate, but a media conference has been scheduled in Canberra for 3.45pm at which they are expected to support the government's proposed 15 per cent rate.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale told reporters a common sense outcome had prevailed.

"This is an issue that has been going on for far too long," he said, adding it had created a lot of uncertainty in regional rural communities.

Under the deal, the government will reduce its clawback of superannuation contributions from 95 per cent to 65 per cent.

An extra $100 million in funding will be provided for Landcare programs.
