Greenpeace activists scale flag poles

Greenpeace activists have climbed flag poles outside Parliament House to protest against Scott Morrison’s energy and climate policy.

Supported by the Greens, two demonstrators in harnesses pulled themselves up the poles, and unfurled a large banner, with the image of the prime minister holding a lump of coal.

Mr Morrison took the coal into parliament to show the government’s continued support for coal-fired power stations.

“Get Your Hands Off It,” the sign read.

Mr Morrison has announced he’ll dump the National Energy Guarantee legislation and concentrate on bringing power prices down.

The protestors came down after 10.30am and were led away by police.

One, who wanted to be known only as Daniel, said they’d got their message across.

He wouldn’t explain how they’d managed to evade security, saying “the government underestimates what people can do”.
