Green spy saga 'a gap in discipline'

Nauru immigration detention centre operators have been slammed for a lack of discipline and professionalism following revelations Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young was spied on during a 2013 visit.

A Senate inquiry examining asylum seeker abuse claims released its report on Monday saying it was a serious concern Transfield Services and Wilson Security viewed the senator's presence as a potential security threat to be managed rather than supporting transparency.

"The committee considers that this incident is a striking example of gaps in the discipline and professionalism of contractor staff and their management, indicative of a culture of secrecy, and demonstrates inadequate Commonwealth oversight of the relevant contractors," the report says.
