A Canadian man’s emotional reaction to his granddaughter’s pregnancy news has won the hearts of thousands after it was posted online.

Harry Rollo Sr, affectionately called “Papa”, was surprised with the news in a video first posted to the Facebook page of media organisation Love What Matters on Saturday.

It shows granddaughter Bianca Rollo of Ontario gifting her beloved Papa a T-shirt printed with the words “great grandpa to be…December 2017” on Father’s Day last month.

“Oh no! Really?” the stunned 85-year-old exclaims, before breaking down and covering his face with his hands.

Ms Rollo then approaches him for a heartfelt hug.

The video has since been viewed more than a million times.

The caption explains Ms Rollo’s special relationship with her grandfather as the firstborn, saying she viewed her pregnancy a chance to “re-live” that relationship with her future child.

“My grandmother (baba) passed away in 2008 and over the last few years something has been missing in our family,” Ms Rollo wrote.

“Even though I know nothing will replace her, it makes me so happy to be able to bring new life into our family.”

Father’s Day occurs on the third Sunday of June in the US.
