Grassfire burns near Vic's Avalon Airport

A grassfire is burning out of control near Avalon Airport, south of Melbourne.

Fire crews are working to contain the grassfire, which is being fanned by strong, gusty winds at Point Wilson, a CFA spokesman says.

No communities or assets are under threat, but people in Avalon, Corio, Little River and Lara have been asked to stay vigilant.

The CFA spokesman told AAP a change in the wind direction expected on Sunday afternoon should push the fire towards Port Phillip Bay.

The fire has not created delays at the airport.
