GPS leads Melbourne driver onto train tracks

A Melbourne motorist has shut down a train line after his GPS directed him to drive onto the tracks last night.

The GPS was meant to direct the man to turn left at an intersection right after a level crossing in Coburg around 7pm last night, the Herald Sun reports.

Instead he steered onto the tracks, driving along for 10 metres before getting stuck.

Traffic on the road banked up for hundreds of metres, and commuters on a train on the Upfield Line were stuck between Batman and Coburg station for more than an hour.

The track was finally reopened about 8.15pm after the silver hatchback was removed by a tow truck.

The man will be charged with several offences and will have to pay the cost of having his car towed.
