The federal government has taken its proposed company tax cuts off parliament's agenda after a senator suffered a family bereavement.

Deputy leader of the government in the Senate Mathias Cormann interrupted debate on the proposed 10-year corporate tax rate cut plan on Wednesday and move for it to be adjourned and resumed later in the day.

The adjournment was agreed to by all parties after Senator Nick Xenophon suffered a family bereavement.
