Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop is adamant the coalition isn't alienating rural voters with its emphasis on economic transition.

The Nationals are ditching the campaign message on innovation because it's frightening regional Australians clinging to old economy jobs, The Australian Financial Review reports.

But Ms Bishop insists regional areas are not only embracing technology and innovation, but leading the way.

She says rural Australia was very much resonating with the coalition's policy on jobs and growth.

"I've just had a look at the National party website and it embraces our policies on strong new economy," she told ABC radio on Thursday.
