Govt got economy wrong last year: Shorten

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten says if Australia loses its triple-A rating it would be the "last nail in the coffin" of the coalition government's economic performance.

Mr Shorten was responding to commentary by US investment bank Goldman Sachs warning Australia that it risks losing the triple-A credit rating due to its poor fiscal performance.

"This is a government who got the economy wrong last year with their extreme ideology and broken promises. They need to do much better than they have done so far," he told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.
