Govt drops plan to water down advice rules

Labor is claiming a win after the federal government was forced to dump plans to water down protections for consumers seeking financial advice.

The government and Labor reached a deal to get technical amendments to the Future of Financial Advice legislation through the Senate on Tuesday.

The government dropped its plans to scrap requirements that advisers provide fee disclosure statements and remove the need for clients to renew ongoing fee arrangements with their adviser every two years.
