Govt considers payment cuts for no-shows

The federal government is considering cutting welfare payments to young people who don't show up for back-to-work programs.

Human Services Minister Alan Tudge says the proposal was put by the founder of a program in Sydney's west teaching young unemployed people workplace skills before sending them off for paid work.

"If there is a good organisation with their heart in the right place, and they are seeking a slightly changed arrangement or policy approach that will help young people get on the right pathway, we should absolutely be examining that, we should be actively looking at this," Mr Tudge told The Australian on Monday.
