Government push to get GPs to rural areas

Patients in 464 rural and remote communities should soon find it easier to see a GP, under a Turnbull government push to address the doctor shortage in country areas.

Medical practices in 220 communities will automatically be guaranteed access to an extra pool of doctors that capital city practices can't hire.

They will be able to hire GPs trained overseas who have passed an Australian equivalent exam.
