Gold Coast woman attacked by bull shark

A Gold Coast woman has been attacked by a bull shark after accidentally falling into the Nerang River.

Bianca Freeman was chatting with friends at Budds Beach at Surfers Paradise on Saturday evening when she slipped into the water – seconds later a bull shark attacked.

"I started screaming to my friend and she pulled me out and I looked down and there was blood everywhere," Ms Freeman, 29, told Nine News.

The shark mauled her thigh and kept striking as she tried to escape.

"I looked down and saw this huge gash missing from my leg and I started panicking," she said.

The university student received a dozen stiches to sew up the wound, and is on a steady dose of painkillers.

"I'm glad I lived to tell the tale," Ms Freeman said.

Shark experts say the shark is around one metre long and four years old.
