Gold Coast couple reunited with babies' ashes stolen in break-in

A Gold Coast husband and wife have been reunited with the ashes of their two baby girls, which were stolen when thieves ransacked their home.

Nigel and Donna Tweed were heartbroken when they arrived at their Upper Coomera home yesterday afternoon to find the front door kicked in and belongings strewn across the floor.

Jewellery and computers were stolen, along with a silver trinket box which contained the ashes of their twin girls.

Maddison and Candice died of complications at birth in 2005.

"Anyone who has lost a baby knows there's nothing... You don't have anything... There's no memories, it's just their ashes," Ms Tweed said.

The ashes were today handed in to police by a member of the public and have been returned to the couple.

Forensic police were at the family's home early this morning dusting for fingerprints, with the hope of tracking the thieves down.
