Gold Coast students escape from burning bus

A group of 35 Gold Coast students had a lucky escape after a bus they were travelling on caught on fire this morning.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Napper Road, Arundel, just before 8am.

The bus was pulling into the carpark of Arundel State School when the back half of it became engulfed by flames. Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the vehicle.

One parent, who has two children at the school, said it was "very scary".

"I heard the driver got all the kids safely off, which is good."

No one was injured.

Police believe it may have been a mechanical issue which caused the blaze.
