Paddleboarder lucky to be alive after run-in with boat propeller
A man is recovering in hospital after being hit by a boat while out paddle boarding yesterday morning, with his family telling 9News he's lucky to be alive after the incident.
A boat collided with Onno Van Es, a 54-year-old paddleboarder, after he ventured into the waves at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast on Sunday morning.
The run-in left Van Es with severe injuries, including deep cuts to his legs and abdomen, inflicted by the boat's propeller.

It's disastrous for all parties, including my husband," his wife, Marnie Keating-Van Es said.
"It's lucky he's a fit, able man but this is … scary."
Emergency services quickly arrived, taking Van Es to hospital, where he underwent surgery.

His family is optimistic he'll recover.
"He's lucky so many people were there and came to his aid," wife Marnie Keating-Van-Es said.
