Man found with hunting knife lodged in shoulder blade on Gold Coast

A man was found on a northern Gold Coast street this morning with a large hunting knife lodged in his right shoulder blade.

Police say they were called to McMillan Street in Labrador at 6am after members of the public found the injured 28-year-old.

It's understood residents heard nothing overnight but were woken this morning by the man screaming for an ambulance.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He has undergone surgery but police have not yet been able to speak with him.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said the attack is not believed to have been random and could have been drug-related.

"It's quite a large knife, probably about a foot-long so he's quite fortunate so I imagine he should be going out and buying lotto tickets tonight."

The street has been declared a crime scene, however police are yet to narrow down where the attack occurred.
