'Terrifying': Police hunt Mercedes driver who hit Gold Coast teens riding e-scooter

Police are looking for a man wanted over an alleged hit-and-run that left two teenagers injured on the Gold Coast.

Police say they know who the driver behind the wheel of a silver Mercedes on Saturday night at 8.30pm is but want help finding him.

They say he was driving fast and erratically near the corner of Benowa Road and Lambros Drive in Benowa near Surfers Paradise when he hit an e-scooter ridden by two teenagers.

Chase Porter and Lily Kaye Smeeton, both aged 16, suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

The driver allegedly failed to stop and help.

"As soon as I hit the ground, I jumped up in adrenaline rush and just was yelling out (Lily's) name," Chase said.

"I started running towards her and she was out cold on the wrong side of the road.

"I tried to drag her off the road but I was shaken up and I didn't have feeling in my legs."

Lily described the incident as "pretty terrifying".

Police said the car would have been damaged on the left-hand side and missing a mirror.

They want anybody who can help or who has dash cam footage to get in touch.
