Gold Coast parking fines: Enraged driver pushes inspector to the ground

Body-worn cameras have led to a significant drop in assaults on Gold Coast parking inspectors.

In the 18 months since the cameras were introduced, there have been 31 assaults, down from 152 in the year prior.

In video supplied by Gold Coast City Council, an angry driver takes his frustration out on an inspector, pushing him to the ground at Palm Beach Parklands.

Now, the council plans to use this kind of bodycam video as evidence to prosecute offenders.

The maximum penalty for serious assault in Queensland is seven years’ jail.

“I want our officers to be able to their job, and get home to their families safe,” Mayor Tom Tate said.
