Rebels bikie charged with strangling his girlfriend

A Rebels bikie gang member has been charged with strangling his partner at his Gold Coast home.

Police allege that the 35-year-old attempted to strangle and assault his 25-year-old girlfriend, who had a domestic violence order in place against him, during multiple incidents at home and in public on Friday and Sunday.

One assault allegedly occurred in a public car park in Helensvale. Members of the public helped the woman and contact emergency services.

Police arrested the man yesterday and searched his Gold Coast home, seizing several items.

He was charged with two counts of strangulation in a domestic setting, common assault and three counts of contravention of a domestic violence order.

He was due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
