Gold Coast chopper captures footage of dangerous burn-out in front of crowds

The Gold Coast police helicopter has captured footage of hoon drivers using thermal imaging technology and heat sensors.

The footage shows hundreds of cars lined up in Norwell on the northern Gold Coast as spectators watch on.

Firecrackers were set off one after the other as one car puts on an illegal and dangerous burn out before racing up the road.

Police initially got a tip-off but couldn’t find the gathering on the road.

The helicopter was able to guide police on the road to the car.

The 28-year-old driver was arrested and charged before his car was impounded.

Often there are dozens of people watching the action from only metres away and police say it’s only a matter of time before they have another tragedy on their hands.
