A nine-year-old boy has been sucked down a Gold Coast storm drain as the state's south-east is smashed by wild weather.

The child was sucked down the drain at Latimers Crossing in Nerang this afternoon.

Paramedics were called to a private property in Gilston at 4.40pm and treated the boy after a "post immersion" incident.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital and is in stable condition.

The region has been hit with heavy rain over the past few days causing flash flooding in some streets.

Lightning, flooding and rough seas have hammered the Gold Coast, with more rain expected later this week.
