Globes host jokes about Clooney's younger women

George Clooney's well–publicised preference for younger women has made him the butt of a joke that had the star-studded crowd in stitches at the Golden Globe Awards.

The show's co-host Tina Fey had a dig at the Oscar winning actor by saying that his film Gravity was "a story about how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age."

The celebrity-packed audience roared in laughter as the television cameras zoomed in his Gravity co-star Sandra Bullock.

The 52-year-old actor, who is currently in single, has had a number of relationships with younger models and actresses.

He has dated British model Lisa Snowdon, Italian TV star Elisabtta Cannalisand WWE diva Stacy Kiebler, all of whom are at least 11 years younger than Clooney.

His 3D Sci-fi drama Gravity has been nominated for a number of Golden Globes including best film.
