Police believe the 30-year-old man from Glenelg South may have skidded 100 metres before smashing into a parked car and pushing it several metres from its parking spot.

Witnesses attempted to perform first aid on the man before paramedics arrived, but he died at the scene.

Alison Street was closed for several hours and parents doing pickups at nearby St Leonards Primary School were told to avoid the area.

The man is the 27th person to die on South Australian roads this year – the seventh in a motorcycle crash.

"It's shocking – shocking. It shouldn't happen in a little one way street like this," Alison Street resident Nicki Cowell said.
