Sydney man charged with alleged random punching attacks on young woman, five-year-old

A 40-year-old man has been refused bail after two alleged unprovoked punching attacks on a woman and five-year-old child in inner-Sydney.

The man is accused of punching a 23-year-old woman who was walking down Missenden Road in Camperdown about 3.40pm on Tuesday.

As she fell to the ground, he allegedly punched her again.

Forty minutes later, the man is accused of punching a five-year-old boy in the face on Bridge Street in nearby Glebe.

The boy was walking along the street with his grandmother and nine-year-old brother at the time of the alleged attack.

Both victims suffered bruising as a result.

Detectives from Leichhardt Police Area Command began an investigation, leading to the arrest of the man near Central Station at 9.20am today.

The 40-year-old was charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
