Give Nauru asylum seeker help: Shorten

Federal Labor leader Bill Shorten is demanding an asylum seeker allegedly raped on Nauru receive medical treatment in Australia.

Mr Shorten says it would be a travesty of justice to deny care to the 23-year-old, who has reportedly pleaded to the government to allow her to come to Australia to have an abortion.

"This is a black and white matter, not a matter of governments acting like robots with no hearts ... she should get the medical treatment in Australia," he told reporters in Melbourne on Wednesday.
