Gittany's sister lashes out at reporters

The sister of murderer Simon Gittany has lashed out at reporters outside court, following her brother's sentencing.

Two of Gittany's sisters were sitting outside Sydney's Supreme Court after he was given a 26-year sentence for the murder of fiancée Lisa Harnum.

"You can go and ruin other people's lives now and leave us alone," one of the women said when questioned by the media.

"You've done enough damage."

She then told reporters that she thinks her brother is not going to serve the sentence.

When asked why Gittany's current girlfriend Rachelle Louise was not at court for the sentencing today, she told reporters: "It doesn't concern you."

Ms Louise has been by her murderer boyfriend's side during all his court appearances and recently went on national TV saying she still believed he was innocent.

Gittany will serve a minimum of 18 years after he threw Ms Harnum from the 15th floor balcony of their Sydney CBD home in July 2011.

While Gittany had no shortage of supporters during the sentencing hearing last week, only three members of his family were in court today.

In handing down her sentence, Justice Lucy McCallum said Gittany showed no remorse and had little chance of rehabilitation.

When the 26-year sentence was handed down, one of the sisters stood up and shouted: "In the name of Jesus Christ, he won't be doing any of that time."

The woman was removed from court, and the other relatives left with her.

As Gittany was being taken out of the courtroom, an observer shouted: "Off the balcony you go!"

Justice Lucy McCallum found him guilty of murder late last year.

He was found to have thrown the 30-year-old off the balcony of their inner-city apartment in a fit of "apoplectic" rage after she made plans to leave him and return to her native Canada.

During his trial, the court heard Gittany was controlling and had installed CCTV cameras inside their apartment and used a computer program to monitor Ms Harnum's text messages and emails.
