Girlfriend of drowned Australian tourist screamed for help

The girlfriend of a Sydney man found dead in a resort swimming pool in Bali screamed for help after discovering his body.

 Vasco Rodrigues, 27, was on holiday with his girlfriend Miroslava Kubeckova, 35, at the Indrakila Garden Hotel about 3km from central Ubud.

Ms Kubeckova told Indonesian police that Mr Rodrigues went for a swim at around 9am and she went to their room.

But later in the morning, a resort employee heard loud screams from Ms Kubeckova, reports the Bali Post newspaper.

Resort worker Ni Ketut Jiwi Arlita told police: "From the restaurant, I heard the sound of woman screaming 'help' repeatedly."

She added she heard the cries coming from the pool area and rushed to the scene with other employees.

The body of Mr Rodrigues was blue and lying under the northern part of the pool, a police spokesman said.

Resort workers then moved the body from the pool and staff took it to a health clinic in Ubud before a further examination at a local hospital.

Mr Rodrigues, who studied at Sydney University and the University of NSW, worked as a physiotherapist in Sydney.

Police have ruled out foul play.

Tributes to Mr Rodrigues have flowed on social media from friends and family.

Nelson Nobrega posted on Facebook: "RIP Vasco, you were one of best buddies in primary."

Stefanie Marais posted: "I still can't believe your gone so soon little brother, you were the smiliest, happiest, funniest guy, loved by so many for a very, very long time."

Persia Mellar wrote: "My heart hurts for all of you. Sending all my love and thoughts to you and your family."

James Ratcliffe said: "He was such a lovely guy. Love to all the family."

David Dias posted: "I can't believe this tragedy. All our thoughts are with the family."
