Girl almost drowns in Sydney pool

A six-year-old girl has been rushed to hospital after almost drowning in a western Sydney pool.

Emergency services initially received reports the girl had drowned in the Winston Hills area on Friday afternoon, but she's now conscious and breathing and being taken to hospital, a police spokeswoman told AAP.

The CareFlight helicopter was called, but she's been taken to Westmead Childrens Hospital by ambulance.

Further details about her conditions are being sought from the ambulance service.
