GetUp to get 'People's Manifesto'

Inspired by the people-powered movements that propelled Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn, activist group GetUp is calling on everyday Australians to help build a People's Manifesto in the lead up to the next federal election.

Members are being asked to complete a 10-minute survey for their take on a number of new policy ideas to "tackle gross inequality".

"Australians are hungry. Hungry for a transformative new vision that will propel our politics beyond pay cuts and perks for politicians and the wealthiest one per cent," GetUp's national director Paul Oosting said in a statement on Friday.

"Who better to determine that vision than the Australian people themselves."

Policies in the survey include free tertiary education, dropping the retirement age, an inheritance tax for wealthy estates and nationalising industries that have been privatised.

The results will help form the basis of some of GetUp's major campaigns for the next federal election.
