Killer Gerard Baden-Clay thinks he has a right to see his children from jail

An Australian man jailed for murdering the mother of his children thinks he has the "right" to be a part of his daughters lives.

Gerard Baden-Clay has been sitting in a cell at Wolston Correctional Centre, southwest of Brisbane, since July 2014 when he was handed a life sentence for murdering his wife Allison.

The 46-year-old had regularly seen his three daughters throughout his murder trial, where it was heard he cheated on Allison and he claimed he accidentally killed her in 2012 and dumped her body out of fear no one would believe his story.

The former real estate agent was not allowed to see the girls when went through a protracted appeals process where his charge was downgraded to manslaughter and then reinstated after significant public backlash.

He had reportedly spoken of his intention to reinstate contact with his daughters – who now live with Allison's parents – but family friends were disgusted when he recently asked to exchange pictures and review their report cards from prison.

"He has no concept about what he has put those kids through and how he has impacted everybody," a friend told The Courier Mail.

"It’s worrying that he thinks he has a right to be involved in these kids’ lives. He just hasn’t."

According to The Courier Mail, Baden-Clay said it would be in the children's best interest if he was able to be a part of their lives.

But prison officials did not agree with the convicted killer and his request was denied.

His children will be adults by the time he is released from prison.

Baden-Clay has a non-parole period of 15 years.
