Queensland Nationals MP George Christensen has repaid more than $2000 in taxpayer-funded travel costs linked to his frequent personal trips to the Philippines.

An Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority audit of his domestic travel found he breached the rules, forcing him to repay $327.28 including a 25 per cent penalty for misusing entitlements.

During the audit, Mr Christensen voluntarily repaid $1843.16 for domestic airfares and luxury cars funded by the public purse.

The Mackay-based politician came under fire for spending 294 days in the Philippines between 2014 and 2018.

He referred himself to the expenses watchdog after questions were raised about taxpayer-funded domestic travel being used to link up with overseas flights to the southeast Asian nation.
