The Gateway Motorway has reopened after a 10-vehicle crash at Bald Hills, in Brisbane's north.

Two trucks and eight cars were involved in the crash on an off-ramp just after 12.10pm (AEST).

Witnesses said it appeared a truck's brakes failed before it ploughed into stationary cars.

One driver had to be cut free from their vehicle, but none of the people involved were seriously injured in the crash.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and traffic diversions enacted for much of the afternoon.

Traffic on the motorway and the Bruce Highway slowed to a crawl throughout the day.

One of the trucks will be seized for testing, and its badly shaken driver has spoken with police.
