Game show icons clash in court over board game royalties

Two game show titans are going head-to-head in court in a dispute over the profits from the board game Smart Ass, and so far there's been no easy answer.

Legendary Sale of the Century contestant Cary Young is alleging he is owed royalties after contributing 4000 questions and answers to the game.

But the game's creator, former Wheel of Fortune host Rob Elliott, is disputing it.

Mr Young is petitioning the Victorian County Court to force Mr Elliott to reveal all financial records and sales of Smart Ass.

Mr Elliott refused to comment when approached by A Current Affair, while Mr Young was initially keen to comment but declined following legal advice.

However, other game show identities are watching the outcome.

Former Sale of the Century warm-up man Pete Smith said it was a "crying shame" to see it reach the courtroom.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford said the case would likely come down to "what have (they) got in writing".
