A Game of Thrones favourite could appear in a remake in one of the biggest movies of all time.

Pedro Pascal, who played Prince Oberyn Martell in the HBO fantasy series, is in talks to play Roman governor Pontius Pilate in Timbur Bekmambetov's remake of Ben-Hur, Deadline has reported.

Pascal would join lead actor Jack Huston, Morgan Freeman, Toby Kebbell and new Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot in the blockbuster film.

The film, based like its famed predecessor on an 1880 novel by Lew Wallace, follows Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince in a land under Roman occupation who is betrayed by a former friend and sold into slavery.

He trains to become a top chariot racer to gain revenge on his old friend.

The Chilean-born Pascal's blockbuster appeal was greatly increased by his fan-favourite appearance on Game of Thrones.

He played a prince nicknamed the Red Viper seeking vengeance for the murder of his sister but, as is often the case for heroes on the bloody fantasy show, met a sticky end.
