There were no snags at the G20 barbecue lunch.

Instead world leaders tucked into a Queensland delicacy - Moreton Bay bugs - during a seafood cook-up ahead of the official opening of the global leaders' summit on Saturday.

The lunch at Queensland's Parliament House was a fancier version of the traditional Aussie barbecue which generally features burnt - but tasty - sausages.

Brisbane chef Ben O'Donoghue, from Billy Cart Kitchen, also served the heads of state seasonal salads, Mooloolaba king prawns, Moreton Bay bugs, freshly shucked oysters, smoked spiced lamb and Tasmanian ocean trout.

The traditional Aussie dessert, pavlova, was served for dessert.

Leaders were entertained at the barbecue by renowned classical guitar duo the Grigoryan Brothers.
