THE DCNS PROPOSAL FOR AUSTRALIA'S NEW SUBMARINES:
* The Shortfin Barracuda Block 1A has been designed specifically for the Australian Navy.
* It uses pump jet propulsion instead of conventional propellers.

* It has the most powerful sonar in a conventional-powered submarine.
* The Shortfin Barracuda is 97 metres long, making it longer than a jumbo jet.
* It is expected to remain state of the art until the 2060s.
