Freedom commissioner slams terror laws

The federal government's freedom commissioner has criticised flagged legislation that will give one if its ministers the power to strip citizenship from suspected terrorists.

Tim Wilson says while nobody is denying the very real threat terrorism poses, the basic liberties of Australians still needed to be protected and preserved.

Simply suspecting a person was involved in terrorism was neither an exceptional nor high threshold for a minister to reach given the consequences, he told ABC radio on Wednesday.
